Class of 2005
Roy M., He Who Does Good For Others

This Brother, an Eagle Scout from Troop 22, was inducted into the Order as a member of Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge in 2001 and sealed his membership in the Brotherhood in 2002. He has served the Eluwak Chapter as a member of the Activities & Unit Elections teams, chaired the chapter-level Ceremonies Committee, and completed a term as Eluwak Chapter Chief. For his commitment to the Chapter, he was presented the Silver Heron Award in 2003. On the Lodge level, he was a member of the Publications and Ceremonies Committees, and has successfully held the offices of Operational Vice-Chief and Executive Vice Chief. This year, he continued his service to Shu-Shu-Gah by taking on the responsibility of, arguably, the most difficult committee in the Lodge – Unit Service. In this capacity, he could often be found with his adviser making multiple trips a week to conduct unit elections all over his district when no one else would make the commitment to do so. During the past four years, he worked on the Camp Aquehonga Staff – devoting his entire summer to serving Scouts in the camp setting – just as when the Order was founded. A true friend to all who know him, he does this all with a genuine heart – never seeking recognition. One recommendation read “In recent years, there have been few youth who have shown the commitment, excitement and general concern for our Lodge that he has shown. Since his induction, he has made being an active member of our Lodge a priority in his Scouting life.” For exemplary service and dedication to his home unit, his Lodge, his camp and the Scouting program, the Vigil Honor is proudly bestowed upon Brother Roy M. The Indian Name given is Wulihan, which is interpreted as He Who Does Good For Others.

Ron Timmons, Genuine Camp Leader

This Brother, a Scout from Troop 540 and 115 Brooklyn, was elected to the Order as a youth member of Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge in 1986 and sealed his membership in the Brotherhood as a member of Suanhacky Lodge in 1990. As a youth, he served on summer camp staff starting as a Counselor in Training at Camp Kunatah. His interest in, and devotion to, the Scouting program was so great that he decided to make it his life’s work and became a professional Scouter. Beginning as a District Executive in the Bronx, he was quickly promoted up the ranks to Assistant Director of Camping. In this role he was principally responsible for Cub World operations, having already served as Program Director for the previous two years. For the next three, he returned as the Director of Cub World during which time he implemented many program improvements, resulting in attendance reaching the highest level since the camps’ opening. He was then promoted to Finance Director in the neighboring Patriot’s Path Council, but after two years, returned home to the Greater New York Councils Camping Department where he currently serves as Council Program Director and Director of Ten Mile River. One recommendation read “His service to Scouting, Ten Mile River and Greater New York Councils is unquestionable. He works tirelessly to ensure that the Scouts of GNYC are afforded every possible opportunity and has shown a particular interest in assisting Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge in meeting its goals.” For genuine unselfish service to Scout Camping, purely as was intended by the Order’s Founders, the Vigil Honor is proudly bestowed upon Brother Ronald E. Timmons. The Indian Name given is Lenni Mechmauwikenk Takachsin, which is interpreted as Genuine Camp Leader.
