Welcome to the Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge Unit Service Committee Home Page. It is our goal this year to afford timely and professional Unit Visitations to every desirous unit in Brooklyn. Order of the Arrow elections and Ten Mile River Summer Camp are two exciting experiences which Scouts await all year. Attention Unit Leaders... It is time for OA Elections and Camp Promotions again! Have you returned your visitation request postcard? Or perhaps you inadvertently did not receive a postcard... The fastest way to request your Unit Visitation is to complete the Online Unit Visitation Request Form.

To be eligible for election as an Order of the Arrow Candidate, each Scout/Scouter must first meet each of the following [non-negotiable] requirements:



Youth [under 21 years of age]* Be a registered Scout of at least the First Class rank. Have completed 15 days & nights camping within the past 2 years (at least 6 of which, and no more than 6 of which, are consecutive and long term, such as at summer camp.) Have obtained approval of the Unit Leader.

Adult [age 21 and over]** Have completed 15 days & nights camping within the past 2 years (at least 6 of which, and no more than 6 of which, are consecutive and long term, such as at summer camp.) Have obtained the approval of the Unit Leader or Unit Committee, (and subsequently) the Lodge Adviser & Scout Executive.

* A valid election requires the attendance of at least fifty percent of the unit's registered youth members (under 21 years of age.) ** Each unit is permitted only one adult membership recommendation annually, and final determination of admittance into the Order rests solely with the Lodge Adviser and Scout Executive. Additionally, if no youth are elected from a unit, there can be no adult candidate. All adult recommendations must be submitted in writing at the time of the unit's visitation, on the appropriate form provided.




• A Scout must have a simple majority (at least 50% of the votes, rounding up in case of an odd number) to be elected.
• A Scout (or Adult) can be absent during the election, and still be elected.
• All youth members are eligible to vote (where "youth" is defined according to the Order of the Arrow, as less than 21 years old). This includes Assistant Scoutmasters, Committee Members, etc. between the ages of 18 and 20 inclusive.

The National Order of the Arrow Committee recognizes that the current description of the camping requirement for Order of the Arrow membership is vague as it stands. For further details, visit the National Committee's Home Page to view the official clarification.
