What a great surprise. The members who put this web site together have done a wonderful job. It certainly helped me recall many fond memories and old friends. Best of luck for continued success of the Lodge. Steve Shupack Netami Sakima 1967 - 1968 Steve Shupack Nice site. I enjoyed it very much! :-) Eric Hickson Hello, I was a member of Troop 146 (Brooklyn) in June of 1967 when I was selected for the Order Of The Arrow. We were the Nakowa Chapter (Bath Beach District) of the SHU-SHU-GAH Lodge No. 24. Our ordeal took place at the Ten Mile River Scout Camp in Narrowsburg. I was very surprised and happy to find that the chapter still exists and continues to grow.I would like to say to the Brotherhood Of Cheerful Service, congratulations on continuing to serve our country in fine tradition. Matthew Gullo I was initiated into the Order at Camp Waramaug (Troop 123) at Ten Mile River in 1948. Became a Brotherhood initiate in 1950. Name was then 'Mavis.' Jason C. Mavrovitis Am am a first class assistant patrol leader in troop 298 and i have just been voted to the oa an di am looking foward to joining Richard Gross Website was wonderful surprise. I was inducted from Troop 97 in 1959. Had my ordeal in TMR. We painted the mess hall, cleared underbrush and slept out under the stars. It was very cold in April. Stuey Stern was our scoutmaster. Everyone loved him. He was always joking and loved to play his guitar and lead us in songs. Does anyone out there remember him. He was very active in the lodge and scouting.I still have my sash, ordeal book, patches and neckerchiefs. I danced at several tap-outs in Kunatah during the summers 1959-1960. Was also at Davis lake in 1960. Anyone from old troop 97 1955-1960? Richard levy Wow! I can't believe that 30 years have gone by! I was in Nakowa Chapter in early '70's, attended '71 NOAC, and '71 World Jamboree. I regretfully lost touch with everyone after leaving for college in '72. After all these years I'd love to hear from brothers like Jack Zeller, Joel Viders, Artie Schack, Bob Guarnacia, Jeff Teitlebaum, Frank Silano, Harris Diamond, Jack Mitzman, and many others. Rory Freeman Great looking website. I'm interested in finding out more about your online recommendation forms for Vigil Honor and the Founder's Award. Scott Stephens Hi. I am looking to contact Harris Schornstein (in the mid-'90s he was living in Port Washington, NY). If the Harris Schornstein that is a member of the Shushugah organization is the same one who used to reside in Long Island, could someone please pass on my contact information? Thank you very much. Sincerely, Rebecca Rebecca Gordon Made my Shu Shu Gah Lodge ordeal at Camp Alpine in 1970 from Troop 295 at St. Patrick's in Bay Ridge. Currently Treasurer of Pack 544 in New Hyde Park. Two boys in the pack. Love to hear from former Troop 295 members. Great Site! Stephen Gitto Greetings from Montana from an old old Shushuga Lodge member - ordeal 1956 or thereabouts, from Troop 500. Lots of good memories here. Larry Nordell i am gratefull to be the secretary treasurer of the lodge. and we should all keep in mind those who died in the situation this year Sheldon Sucre I was very pleased when my son referred me to this web site. It was good to look through the past and recall so many familiar names and recalling the fun that we shared as scouts and scouters. I became an ordeal member the weekend of April 21-22-23, 1961. I remained a member of the Achewen Schingue Chapter of Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge until I transferred my membership to Monsi Lodge and later to Nacha Nimat Lodge with the council mergers. Keep up the great site. Yours in scouting, Graham Graham Seidel I was thrilled to come across this site! My dad grew up in Flatbush and was a proud member of Shu-Shu-Gah for many years. When I could not make my Ordeal in Rockland County, Max Frame graciaously let the son of his old friend seal his memebership with Shu-Shu-Gah in May, 1986 at Camp Keowa. I later joined my home lodge but always keep a special place in my heart for # 24. Seven years after that weekend at TMR I was chosen for the Vigil Honor. I remain a proud Arrowman today. Thanks and keep up the great work on this website! Chris Seidel (Klamhattenamin) The great memories came flooding back! Great job on this wonderful way to keep the "brotherhood" going strong. Keep up the great work. Pat Coviello There should be a way for "old" brothers to keep in contact with the lodge. Chris Lotito I became an Ordeal Member in Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge back in 1969 (Troop 173 in Park Slope). I sealed my my Brotherhood vows in 1970. I currently live on Long Island (Valley Stream) and I'm an Asst. Scoutmaster with Troop 116. I'm part of the Buckskin Lodge and still attend the work weekends. It was great to find your web site. It looks fantastic. Keep up the wonderful work of the OA. Carlos A. Caban Hi I was the vice-chief of shushugah under Pat Coviello from 1976-1978. Marc Grant I enjoyed your website and was extremely impressed with the professional layout...and then again...OA Brothers are a professinal lot, aren't they. Thanks again! WWW Dudd Dudd K. Flanagan II Satisfying, Thank you Beau Conlon Brotherhood Member Nakowa Chapter 1960's-Troop 326 Michael R. Buchter I love the way the site is designed. Its easy to navigate and find what you are looking for. Keep up the good work, and I look forward to further inhancement to the website. Sean West Greetings in Brotherhood to all. I am a former member of the Oseetah Chapter of Shu-Shu-Gah. I was inducted in 1952 at TMR and attained Brotherhood Honor the following year. I also served on Staff at TMR in D3 as the bugler. Some of you old timers may have remembered the summer of 1954 when the campsites above Potowatamie caught fire. That thankfully was the only time I ever played "Fire Call" for real. (We saved quite a bit of the camp that otherwise would have been lost). After an enlistment in the U.S. Navy and having served on Admiral's Staff for the Commander of Carrier Division 5 (COMCARDIV 5) I ended up at Cal Tech's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) where I am still working today in Deep Space Exploration. Some of my fondest memories are of my days in the OA and my time at TMR. Live your life to the fullest and let the Golden Rule be one of your guiding principals. R.J. (Bob) Brodkin I was a Cub in 1947, a Scout in 1950, Staff in Kunatah(D3) in 1954 and 1955. I was there when Bischuwi was replaced by Achewen Shingue. My heart never left the O.A. and scouting. I went into private camping in 1956 and worked as counselor, group leader, head counselor, director and camp owner for the rest of my career. I'm retired, living in Florida and serving as a camp inspector for the American Camping Association down here. I also taught in the NYC high schools for 33 years. Shu-Shu-Gah Lodge has been my north star for most of my life. Allan Hodes The Shu-Shu Gah lodge? I was section vice chief under Jeff Herrman in the mid 1970's. This lodge was the crew that knew how to have a good time. It was Paul Natheson who lobbied Shu-Shu Gah lodge brothers to get me elected at the 1975 Conclave.Who can forget the "mug-a-ree" Paul was chairman of? This lodge had a seemingly hilarious mystique that provided many laughs amidst a lot of positive memories. In The Spirit of Brotherhood, Tony Marren Area 3-A Vice Chief 1975-1976 Buckskin 412 Lodge Tony Marren shushugah lodge #24 has gone a long way. Being a part of the Order of The Arrow was an honor and privilege. Being Shu-Shu-Gah was a blessing. OA..early 80's Lorne Epstein Greetings: I was guided to your great web site by the SM of Troop 22 Brooklyn. I had visited his site looking for information on Troop 2 Brooklyn, Central District 1939-1945, I attended Camp Leatherstocking, TMR, in 1940. It only cost $7 then. The opening campfire was very impressive. The Camp Director sat on a rustic throne with the form of a Great Blue Heron resting over his head. He pointed to it and said the Great Blue Heron was respected by the native Americans but he would tell us more about it later in the campfire program. It wasn't until we were dismissed in utter silence from the campfire at Talequah with only our flashlights shining on the ground that I realized the camp director had forgotten to tell the story of the Great Blue Heron and why it was so important to the native American. So, since 1940 I have hoped to find out perhaps you can help. While a SM in Minuteman Council, near Boston I became an ordeal then brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, Kahagon Lodge now no more. I've maintained my membership since joining and am presently a MC with my grandson's Troop # 1, in Boxborough, Mass A webb site like this certainly does needed service to Boy Scouting. Keep up the great work. Thank you in advance for any information on the Great Blue Heron significance to the native Americans. Still linked to Brooklyn after all these years. Now Principal of PS 241, thanks to scouting for building greatleadership skills. Keep up the great work. Yours in Brotherhood. Len Kaufman i enjoyed my visit to ur site - having been inducted to the OA in then sacaponac chapter from sunrise district. i later earned eagle there, bfore i left brooklyn for good. i'd attended TMR several seasons, and served as nature director for several years. i remember camps at kotohke, kunatah, and chappegat (then referred to with "division" numbers), and birding at sunrise at what i think was named Mahl pond. i served as the ordeal representative to the chapter, and played "K" in several ceremonies. in those days, brotherhood members wore sashes on the left shoulder. the lodge neckarchief was in the red white and blue lodge colers and was in great demand from other chapters/lodges. unfortuntely, the designers used a straight-necked blue crane instead of the blue heron (which flie with its neck curved) as the totem. it looks as if u have become "naturally correct" by now. i appreciated the lodge and OA history especially the tidbits about TMR and the districts, as well as the lodge/chapters. nice meandering through your history to help me remember my own. shel dick Member of Ordeal 2000...Inducted Y2K Andrew was inducated into the o/a in 1951 as a cammper in D3 kunatah, was treas. of the lodge in 1954,was inducated into the brotherhood 1955 jerry gordon Somehow I came across this page.
