Report for Wednesday, August 2, 2000 The main event for today, as we mentioned in yesterday's
report was Founder's Day. During Arrowfair (a portion of the Founder's
Day activities) each Lodge is given the opportunity to erect a booth that
represents the culture and atmosphere of their hometown. As usual, Shu-Shu-Gah
took a back seat to no other, and was presented with a certificate for
winning First Place in the Founder's Day booth competition. This is the
second time that Shu-Shu-Gah has received the First Place award (the last
time was in 1994 at Purdue University).
For our Founder's Day booth, we chose to bring the attractions of Coney Island to Knoxville Tennessee. Visitors were able to take a walk on the famous Coney Island Boardwalk, play games of chance, and even sharpen their Brooklynese speech skills. Prizes for winning the games included authentic deeds to the Brooklyn Bridge, a small canister of authentic Coney Island sand, or a 100% valid certificate for a free ride on the Wonder Wheel. And, since no trip to Coney Island can be complete without some authentic cuisine, we brought that as well - as guests were treated to Nathan's Coney Island Hot Dogs, and Egg Creams. Now do you can see why we took first place. CLICK HERE FOR MORE PHOTOS FROM
